FAQ - Unmanaged VPSes

All of our VPSes are unmanaged by default. We have compiled this FAQ to assist you in knowing what our "unmanaged" means.

Why Unmanaged?

Our unmanaged services are best suited for those who have enough extensive system administration experience to maintain and manage their VPS by themselves. Host Maven provides customers with full root access to their VPS allowing them the freedom and tools to customize configurations and install 3rd party or proprietary software. Additionally, customers are free to purchase management from another company besides Host Maven, if they do not wish to purchase management directly from Host Maven. VPS Management can be purchased as an additional service for an extra $25 a month. Management is a 24x7 service. This FAQ will hopefully answer all of your questions that you may have about our unmanaged services.

Which VPS plans are unmanaged?

Each of our VPS plans are unmanaged. Management is available as an add on service, for an extra $25 a month. While Host Maven may offer specials on VPS pricing from time to time, none of these specials include VPS management. VPS management must be purchased at the additional costs.

Will you install 3rd party applications for me, and perform security checks?

No. We will not install any software besides a control panel (if ordered) and an OS on our unmanaged VPSes. We only provide support for: our network, hardware, Virtuozzo software, billing, licensing, installation of a control panel, and installation of an operating system. Software such as Apache, PHP or MySQL are considered to be 3rd party software and will not be installed.

What is included in your setup?

Our setup includes the configuration of Virtuozzo, the installation of any control panel you may have purchased with your setup or a default control panel, and the addition of your account to our billing software. The minimum configuration will be used and any additional functionality or configuration is not included.

Do I receive root access?

Root access will be given on all VPS accounts with Host Maven. The VPS is considered your own individual 'server' and you may do anything with it you like, including installation, updating, or customization of software (assuming it doesn't violate any part of our TOS).

Will you transfer my account(s) for me?

Yes, but to an extent. We will simply transfer your account(s), and only on new VPS orders. This means that we will move your account(s) from your previous server (or account), and move them to your VPS. We will not deal with any errors on your account(s) or any problems that are not created by the transfer. Host Maven moves your account but it's up to the individual owner to fix errors. Transfers will be done in non-peak hours so please be patient.

What exactly does support do?

We only provide support for: our network, hardware, Virtuozzo software, billing, licensing, installation of a control panel, and installation of an operating system. If you'd like additional support, please inquire about our VPS management package.
